Can't get rid of box asking for password when I try to access my BT email account via Thunderbird

I've accessed my email account [email protected] for years without problems. I recently had to change the password, when helping my wife to recover from a hacked email account. Since then, a box persistently appears on my screen, asking for my password, which it then rejects, saying 'log-in failed'. I can't get rid of the box, which keeps reappearing. Please advise

My guess would be that the password you entered was slightly different than you thought you entered. Especially if you have never received email since the change. Have you used the same password to access the BT online email interface?
