Windows crashed on my desk top computer and I can no longer get to my files and old emails. How can I reconnect with my old information?

I had Thunderbird open and something caused the desktop computer to crash and turn off. I restarted and thunderbird does not recognise any of the old files or any of the old emails I had in those files. Access to these files, which must still be on my computer is important. Also the address book was split up into different groups so that I could access different groups easily. All the email addresses seem to be present, but the groupings are lost. How can I reconstitute them?
