I receive mail on my desktop iMac. when I travel I use my Macbook. I organize like emails into folders and would like to be able to copy a folder from the iMac to the Macbook while retaining the original on my iMac.

Chosen solution

I suggest you use IMAP mail and then your folders will sync between both devices. Manual solutions are prone to complete failure as Thunderbird was not designed with that sort of activity in mind.
