I started this back on 5-15-2015. I want the old OPTIONS box back. The "Classic Theme Restorer" is not sufficient and makes it too clunky. I want the new Firefox but with the old OPTIONS window. How???????????????????????????????????????????

You can't get it back! "Classic Theme Restorer" is the only option for having the Options / Preferences in a separate window. "inContent" is the direction that Mozilla has chosen to undertake with Firefox.

You might want to look into SeaMonkey - http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ - which probably will retain the separate window for Options / Preferences. Or look into other Gecko browsers that are based upon Firefox.

Thank you for your reply. With due respect, this does not resolve the problem. developers should stop deciding what features other people want and actually listen to them.

You can make your opinion known to Mozilla by providing feedback here: https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback

The vast majority of the support contributors here are users, like you, and have "no say" about what gets added, changed, or removed from Firefox. Yes that "inContent" tab setup for preferences sucks big time, but some of us long-time users saw it coming when the Add-ons window disappeared a few years ago in lieu of Add-ons going "inContent" and figured it was just a matter of time before all the separate windows went "inContent".

The browser.preferences.inContent preference was only temporary for those who knew about it as otherwise you would have been using the new Options/Preference since Firefox 38.0

The old options/preferences was not being maintained anymore with the changes and features since.

Still looking for a solution to this problem. The use of a web page for working the "Options" is slow, problematic, HARD TO READ, and never takes me to the right section of the Options pages I want (to clear the Cache). Any solutions out there???

Have a look at these extensions or search the add-ons website.

Note that you can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

I encountered a problem because of the lack of a solution to this problem when I had to clear the cache and it did not take me directly to it as the pop-up box did previously. It also jumped 30 tabs to the right end from where I was working and did not reset back when I closed the new options tab. I really need a solution to get back the options box and not a web page. It is really irritating, confusing, and now problematical to use the new web page. NOT EVERYONE LIKES WEBPAGES AND CLOUD BASED SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS! Thank you.

IF ANYONE has a solution that gets me back the original options pop-up box, please please please share it with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, since nothing seems to be helping, you might like to try Pale Moon browser which has Options in the style that you want.

PaleMoon is a bit of a Frankenstein browser now days as it is based on Firefox 38 ESR and uses the Goanna 2.0 rendering engine instead of Gecko. Also its future is uncertain. http://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11529
