Why is it that several of my sent messages appear in the GMail IMAP sent folder but not in the local sent folder, and how do I correct this?

I have noticed that several (but not all) of the messages I have sent are not shown in my local sent folder but are in the IMAP GMail sent folder. I was under the impression that the two folders would be synchronized but this does not appear to be the case. Is there any way that I can ensure that these two folders will contain identical messages? If possible, I would also like to go back and retroactively synchronize them.

Thanks,

Mvt926

You need to subscribe to the right sent-list. (I found two sent on my gmail and three bin/trash) If you use your account on different devices send from one and see were it ends up.
