Clicking "repair folder" deleted my inbox - how do I retrieve my messages?

After installing Kaspersky anti-virus software, I was having trouble viewing my old messages in my inbox (when I clicked on an old message, nothing would appear in the box where the message usually appears). I attempted to fix this by right-clicking on "Inbox", selecting "Properties" and then clicking "Repair folder." However, this ended up deleting all of my old messages. I have checked my "Trash" folder and it's empty, so they're not there. Is there any way to retrieve the messages I lost?

Chances are that Kaspersky messed up your Inbox. "Repair folder" attempts to repair the corruption with the result you observed. Therefore don't let Kaspersky scan your Thunderbird profile folder. Wrt your lost messages, restore a recent backup, assuming you are regularly creating backups.
