My computer died last week (motherboard crumped) so since it was a Microsoft XP machine, I went for a new machine with Microsoft 8, purchased from Best Buy. Their Geek Squad backup up all of the data from my old computer onto my new machine. I am attempting to reclaim my extensive bookmark structure. I still have the old hard drive, if we need to search there for a file. I've located the places.sqlite file from the day before the board crumped. Is this the file I need?

If you have a places.sqlite file from before the crash then you should be able to restore the bookmarks in it, provided that the file is not corrupted. If you have JSON backups from the bookmarkbackups folder then you could use those as well.
