I always have 2-3 windows with 30-40 tabs on each going on at a time, and when I power off my laptop, I simply close the windows knowing that I can restore "Recently Closed Windows" from the opened one when I restart ff. But this is the 2nd time even the 2nd windows is not shown there. Disaster! Where can I manually restore the one with more than 50 tabs?

Use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar.

Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Thanks for your reply cor-el, however, those are not the solution. I always use the Startup settings and now I know I should have Exited instead of closed. But how can I restore the other window as I used to do?--through "sessionrestore" when ff crashes or through "Recently Closed Windows" when I close them, and then I have them all back?

In the Firefox menu (Top Left Corner) there is the HISTORY option, hover your mouse over it and you will see a Sub Menu for Restore Closed Windows

When ff crashed, the HOMEPAGE (default pictured here http://d.pr/XoB4 ) has a RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION button below the search bar

That's what I talked about: I can't find the window I'd like to restore in the "Recent Closed Windows" because there were a couple popups that had "squeezed out" it.

"Recent Closed Windows" only stores so many entries. If you want to go further back than whats allowed but the RCW option, then you will have to use the "History Manager"

Yeah, but that would lead me to half a year ago, and I have to restore page by page. I can even see the links are in the "sessionrestore" file, just don't know if it can be restored like a window, like the one you would get when using RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION after ff crashes or RCW after you close the windows

I would like to help, but I guess I'm not sure what it is you are asking then.

If the pages you would like to restore are located in about:sessionrestore then you can click the Restore button on the bottom left. If there are pages(popups) in about:sessionrestore that you do not want to restore then you can Uncheck them by clicking the check mark next to each Windows and Tabs listed

Otherwise your options in restoring pages that you have previously viewed is by using the History Manager. Take a look at this KB entry about Browser History. It might help

iMarshmellow, you knew what I am talking about in your last reply. The about:sessionrestore only appears when ff crashes, but my case is that I closed the windows. RCW would only allow a couple and has included the pop-ups, so the window I want was "Squeezed out". I am asking the way to restore the missing window just like I would be able to through about:sessionrestore

more options

If the page is not in the "Restore Closed Window" dropdown, then you're only option is to search for it in the History Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+H)

If the page is visible in about:sessionrestore, click the checkmark under the "Restore" section (next to where it says "Windows and Tabs") next to all the ones you do not want restore, leaving the pages you want checked. then click restore.

There are no other options, that I'm aware of atleast.

There is the address bar, it searches your History... so if you start typing the name, or part if the pages name it should find it..

Thanks, so it seems that's it

Hey Earvin!

I had exactly the same problem using linux OS I know this one is very annoying.

I found a solution here

http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1016974-trying-to-recover-a-lost-session-in-firefox/

Your sessionstore.js file should be on your firefox folder, mine was on a hwad0hks.default folder
