Do you have Display Attachments Inline checked under View? Did you restart TB after changing the pref.?

more options

yes in line is checked and yes i closed out and restarted Thunderbird

under attachments in the side column the choices i get are attachments always ask save file use notepad default use other delete action. the text message was from before i changed to true so i went to it again after the change and still went to notepad.. I am using a windows pc not a cell phone. I am getting Thunderbird through comcast. I hve a lot of my contacts as texts as well as emails. I sent them atext through Thunderbird and you see the text i got back in note pad

I have HTML checked should i use plain text

i have it as western not unicode does that matter

i had changed unicode to western now how do i put it back

I don't think it matters if it's unicode or western, or what you have for View/Message Body As. Send yourself a message with a text attachment created in Notepad. If it shows inline, it means the text sent from the phone as an attachment is not properly defined with the correct content type: you should see Content-Type: text/plain in the source (Ctrl+U).

i have no way to send a text to myself

no cell phone. and am not sure i totally understand what you mean about the not sure i quite understand what you mean about the source and where to see it

Send an email to yourself with a text file attachment created in Notepad - nothing to do with cell phones.

Select the message sent to you from the phone, in your first picture, press Ctrl+U to view the source.

re: sorry for being so dumb i do not understand what you wnt me to do what phone i have no phone

It has nothing to do with phones as we are discussing Thunderbird and emails. But someone sent you a text message from a phone and you received it in Thunderbird as an email with an attachment. Select the message sent to you from the phone, in your first picture, press Ctrl+U to view the source or click on 'More' button and select 'View Source'

as sfhowes says about the 'view Source' info. If it shows inline, it means the text sent from the phone as an attachment is not properly defined with the correct content type: you should see Content-Type: text/plain in the source (Ctrl+U).

WE do not need to see all the stuff at the top as that contains headers, it is only the information that is shown below the 'FROM, SUBJECT, TO, DATE' headers. Post image showing all that info.

re: i have attachment as in line But do you have both of the following set as True ? Menu app icon >Options > Options >Advanced > 'General' tab Check both of these are set as 'True'

  • mail.inline_attachments
  • mail.inline_attachments.text

The image you supplied from a while ago at the begining of this question says Attachments: Size unknown If this is still the case then Access Config Editor again and set this as 'False'.

  • mail.server.default.mime_parts_on_demand

re :not sure what you mean by view source where is is it how do i find view source. I advised you where it is. 'View Source' has always been in the same place, so nothing has changed in decades. Select the message sent to you from the phone, click on 'More' button and select 'View Source' - see image. It will open in a new window.
