Clickable buttons on many web pages do not appear correctly and aren't labelled/named.
Two recent examples: 1. videos on NewYorkTimes.com show clickable buttons as small unlabelled rectangles, with "squiggly" lines in side the rectangles. I can guess which one is play or stop, but the other buttons are a mystery! 2. I sometimes go to the att.net email page,, and all clickable buttons (dozens of them) appear this way, and some aren't even clickable. I checked the same site with IE and the problems don't exist there! Any good solution ideas? Thanks!

Type about:preferences#content<enter> in the address bar. Across from fonts and colors, press the Advanced button. On the bottom, turn on Allow Web Sites To Choose Their Own.

Fred,
Thanks. I tried your suggestion, saved the change, and restarted firefox just to be sure. The change created an improvement, but (for example), the volume button for the NYT videos appears correctly, but when I hover or click on it, the volume "scale" doesn't appear, so I can't change it. Same with att mail, the buttons appear good, but clicking on them gets no response. What next?

See if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
