Why some but not all starred messages automatically go to starred folder?

I though I was going crazy when the email disappeared. Now it seems that when I star some messages the go to a starred folder under the folders for that email account. I don't think I ever set a message filter to do this and some emails I have starred have not been moved. I would prefer just to have a copy of the email in the starred folder, but what is really puzzling is when and why Thunderbird started doing this.....? Seems like a good idea but I am not sure how to control it.

As far as I'm aware, there is no default folder called 'Starred' in Thunderbird. Perhaps you used one of the following methods to create it.

You can create a folder called 'Starred' and choose to manually move starred messages to that folder.

You can also create a Message Filter to manually run on a folder to search for Status is Starred messages and move them to a specified folder called 'Starred' assuming you have previously created the 'Starred' folder.

You could also perform a search using: 'Edit' > 'Find' > 'Search Messages' and search for starred messages in a particular folder or mail account and then choose to 'Save as Search Folder' and then give folder the name 'Starred'.
