My added toolbar with countless buttons on it has disappeared.

I added an extra toolbar to FF a long time ago... I added absolutely loads of button icons to it for all sorts of functions. Largely out of the Customise set. Now the whole toolbar has disappeared. It is not there to re-tick in the Toolbars options. The Firefox help and Community Support items on related problems don't cover this. I can create a new toolbar of course but it would take hours to re-find and place all those icons. And I really don't want to Reset Firefox until I know I definitely can't recover the lost toolbar, for the same reason.

In some other threads, users tried to restore old versions of profile folder files using Windows 7's Previous Versions features. You could see whether that is an option in this case. The following assumes you are running the browser that has the issue; I think Firefox and Waterfox would be the same here.

Open your currently active Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

Switch back to Firefox and Exit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then right-click localstore.rdf and choose Properties, then try the Previous Versions tab. You can try restoring a copy of the file from a date where you still had the bar.

Please update to Firefox 20.0.1

I forgot to mention, this was on Waterfox not Firefox. Waterfox is indeed on v18 (I don't know if they've updated since that, but I haven't been notified of an update). However when I closed Waterfox and opened Firefox I found it was already on v20, and the added toolbar is still missing. So it looks like it's not due to an out of date program version. In fact it might possibly be due to updating Firefox to v20? (I get notified of new FF versions by CNet.)

Such a customization is stored in the localstore.rdf file.
So if you lost that toolbar with its buttons then either the file got corrupted or a new file has been created for other reasons.

You can check the localstore.rdf file to see if it still contains this toolbar and its icons, but I'm afraid that you will have to redo this customization.

Thankyou cor-el and jscher2000. jscher2000's solution worked, I found a previous version of localstore.rdf from 24th April that, when applied, resulted in both Waterfox and Firefox restoring the missing toolbar. It seems I didn't need to re-do the customisation from http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf. I shall remember this and pass it on to other users. :)
