Chosen solution

After installing Firefox 8 my PCs became unbearably slow. I got rid of 8 and my PCs are fine again. Dump 8 if you're having speed and memory problems and wait until Firefox fixes the problem. Try Chrome or Opera until then.

Yep! You will have to uninstall the current version to install a lower version of Firefox.! But I'm not having any problems with Firefox 8. It's faster than Firefox 7 in my PC. Try reinstalling Firefox 8 and if the problem is not yet solved uninstall and reinstall a lower version..

Yes, Firefox 8.0 is much slower than Firefox 7.0, it is slower because it eats so much CPU Usage, I can see that clearly, it also hangs, freezes when loading page. I switched to Opera, I think Firefox should learn something from Opera, Opera run really fast on all system, include my slow Notebook, but Firefox is going too far, only support fast computer.

I experience the same trouble than Cattleya: Firefox 8.0 is much more slower than 7. in my Toshiba A300/Win 7-64/4Gb ram. Ok at the beginning, but after a while and a few web pages later it starts using very often 100% of the ram and of the 2 cores, freezing the computer for several minutes: completely crazy! I don't understand why Mozilla insistently proposed upgrading toward such a defective version?

My solution: to forget Firebox and use Explorer or Opera as long as the problem will not be fixed.

Yes, have the same problem. Slow and freezing at some page loads. I am running WinXP on Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.19GHy and 4GB RAM. I do not suspect my PC as it can run much more resource hungry applications. I have decided to get it down graded to v7 until some solid v8 is available.

Finally down graded to version 7.0b6 from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/7.0.1/win32/fr/. Very easy and no need to uninstall the bulimic v8. Just do as for an upgrading and you will find everything as it was before. But don't forget to unselect the automatic upgrading in Options/Advanced ...
