I am suddenly (without having changed anything knowingly) unable to send emails or reply to emails. I get the following message: ELNK003_308 - https://postmaster-earthlink.vadesecure.com/outbound_error_codes/#_308. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again. I have checked and the email address is correct. As I said I had not changed anything knowingly. I did go into settings and changed the outgoing to no authentication. After restarting, I still get the same error. I have no idea what to do.

Well the information on the link is very clear

_308 550 5.5.1 Authentication required You cannot send messages before successful user authentication.

So open the outgoing server (SMTP) entry in account settings and enable authentication in the settings for the outgoing account you are using. (Probably set authentication to normal password)
