I did a restart iMAC OS10.12, same problem. In one similar email account emails download and are visible. The problem account seems to have all same settings. In the problem account the messages are downloaded from the server and are not there anymore but in TB 102 the messages appear but are all empty.
This is very annoying I have used Thunderbird for over 20 years with no problems and now I have had lots!! The latest is the email content not being displayed on one of my email addresses that is using POP3. When I was checking the settings it came up with this message which i don't understand, could someone explain in ordinary english: "The Local Directory path "C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\p462g0by.default\Mail\pop.ntlworld.com" is not suitable for message storage. Please choose another directory." Hope this can be sorted soon.
Yesterday it all seemed to work again but this morning, all the same problem and only for one of the email accounts (POP3). Basically all those emails are lost. Other email accounts working normally. Fortunately I changed the settings on the email server to keep all mails for 7 days and made automatic forward to other address. I restarted TB and it seemed OK again. So I guess I cannot leave TB open overnight, after use should quit. I have no any failure alert. I hope some solution is coming
The problem remains and gets even to other email accounts. As for now the trick is, restart TB, download messages, then quickly exit TB whenever finished. I wonder why not more people have this problem...
I have managed to resolve my problem now. I was reading some other threads about this sort of problem and someone mentioned that anti virus programs sometimes cause problems so I decided to try disabling mine which is Avast. As soon as I did all the message content was available and it all behaved normally. I then put the anti virus back on and it was still ok. I then restarted the computer and it is still ok. It is a very strange problem that only affects one email address and not others!
I use ClamXAV. I wonder if it is the same issue. I will try. Actually first it affected only one POP3 account, but after setting that one "to not download and check new messages" the problem moved to another POP3 account. I will update here later.
I also ran into this and have Avast. I turned off the Avast Mail Shield and rebooted Thunderbird, and all was well. I turned on the Avast Mail Shield, and Thunderbird continued displaying messages. I rebooted Thunderbird and everything was still fine. Left to determine is whether it all sustains after a computer reboot. Fingers crossed.
I did all that after turning off ClamXAV, still off. The problem remains. After a TB restart the messages appear. After a few hours, the new ones are empty. So, I am at a total loss. Any other tips? Or is it because I am on Sierra? Any other groups that talk about this?
Today I upgraded to Monterey. Antivirus still off. Well, TB102 still the same problem. Anybody any thoughts? I plan to try to go back to TB 91-9-1. Any other group discussion?
It's TB 102.0.x that garbles the emails... Tried to read same emails from my other pc (TB ver 90.x) and they was just received fine as alway (before 102.0.x

I still have this problem.
Yes and I also still have the problem as mentioned above. I use a lot more my webmail for the time being. TB works for some 30-40 min without problems, then again empty messages. So I quickly start up and quit after some 30-40 min.
Is version 102.0.3 better?
I just saw version 102.0.3 and updated. Will do tests to see if it solved the problem. Anyway I still back up all emails so I do not lose any if the problem persists. Will post findings later.
Now with version 102.0.3 it seems it is SOLVED. I left TB open overnight, and all mails were OK, none empty. Let's wait a little to call it SOLVED but yes it looks OK...
