I am asking this as a last attempt before giving uo on Firefox completely.

I cannot access the "Player" Page of the UK National Lottery Web Site if using Firefox. This is the page : https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/home.ftl

I get this error message : "SECURE CONNECTION FAILED. An error occurred during a connection to www.national-lottery.co.uk. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR"

Windows 8.1, running Firefox 75.0, with Avast 20.2.2041 Anti Virus.

This used to work fine, the was saved as a Bookmark. I can open the Web Page fromthe same computer if I use google Chrome Browser, without any other intervention.

After extensively researching various Help Topics on Firefox here's what I've tried :

Turning OFF Avast Anti-Virus protection - makes no differece. Clearing Firefox History, Cache, and Cookies - makes no difference. Refreshing Firefox - makes no difference.

The other thing I have noticed is that the Home Page of the National Lottery Web Site - https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/ WILL load, but only as a page Text with lots of Links.

Any ideas ?

Good morning,

"You must have other issues with Firefox if you're ready to switch over one website... "

I can't see how voicing opinions and assumptions ( which are wrong ) will help fix the problem here !

I tried the Link you provided to the Syle sheet of the second server,

and it opens in Firefox with a wall of text starting with "body, div, "etc.

I have since deleted the Bookmark for the page "https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/home.ftl" ( the Page I used to use to Sign in to the National Lottery site ) which was the one giving the "PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR", deleting it has made no difference either.

With regards to "Add-Ons", I have previously stated that there are no "Extensions" listed as being installed, just a list of Recommended Extensions with an option to "Add to Firefox", and in "Plug Ins" there are only : "OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco systems, Inc", "Shockwave Flash 32.0 r0", and Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc."

Als as previously advised I have tried disabling each and all of the these Add-Ons, running Firefox in Safe Mode, and Refreshing Firefox, all of whichhave made no difference.

I've not mentioned this previously but I have no Ad Blocking / Pop Up blocking software etc running.

Thanks.

With all due respect,   you started this thread with :

" I am asking this as a last attempt before giving up on Firefox completely. " .......

If you have other problems with Firefox;   would you please mention them ?
They just might somehow be related to your current problem.

Clutching at straws now!

Open the 3-bar menu > Options (General) - Network Settings; click on Settings, and make sure that Configure Proxy Access to the Internet, is set to No Proxy.

Type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept any warning, then type into the search box security.tls and make sure that security.tls.version.min is set to 1. Also make sure that security.tls.version.max is set to 4. If either isn't, click the Edit button on the right-hand side and change it, then close the tab and restart Firefox.

I assume that you are in the UK. Have you been using your PC in another country?

That's right, meant as, "I've tried everything I can think of without success, and am resorting to asking for help here as a last resort.

I have NO other issues with Firefox ( that I'm aware of ! ).

Thanks.

Thanks for your help _ wil work through each stage an report back.

First of all, yes I'm in the UK, and the Computer has never been taken to another Country.

Looking at the Configure Proxy access setting, it is set to "Use system proxy settings", so I will change that first and report back.

Thanks.

Thank you for clearing that up   -   is a huge relief to know that it is just this one site that is causing you   (and now us)   a major pain in the neck !

Changing to "No Proxy" has made no difference.

I have looked at the tls.version settings, and both are as they should be : security.tls.version.min = 1 and security.tls.version.max = 4

Thanks.

What does the Network Monitor show about requests for files in general and CSS files in particular ?

Hi cor-el,

I don't fully understand what you are asking me to do here, "What does the Network Monitor show....... " ?

I have attached the following Screenshots, hoping these are what you need ! :

Network Monitor, after clicking the "CSS" Tab, and the Web Console page.

I don't know what you are asking for with the "requests for files in general" ?

Thanks

I'm guessing thre last information provided for "cor-el" didn't help identify the problem, as there has been no further response, but I have soem more information that may be useful.

Today, I needed to buy a Lottery Ticket. I checked their site using Firefox, "just in case", but it was still the same so I opend up Chrome Browser, whuch worked fine a few days ago, and now it behaves exactly like Firefox - trying to open https://www.national-lottery.co.uk/ opens up a plain page of Text with lots of Links to their other Pages, just like the problem I'm having with Firefox.

I opened Internet Explorer and found I could open Web Page without any problems using that Browser.

What the heck is going on ?

Hopefully my Numbers will come up tonight and I won't have to worry about this ever again !

This is weird - The problem seems to be resolved ! ( But I'm still confused ! )

After posting my previous message, I got to thinking there must be something common to Firefox and Chrome that was preventing the page from loading correctly in both Browsers.

I had a hunt around in the Windows Firewall settings, and looked in the list where you can "Allow apps to communicate through Windows Firewall".

Scrolling down the list of "Allowed Apps and features" ,concentrating on those that were NOT checked, I saw that "Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol" was NOT checked.

Under "details" for that feature it read : "This feature is used to allow incoming VPN connections using Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP). (Uses HTTPS)".

So I checked the box to allow it and see what would happen. ( Seems everything has been tried so why not ? ! )

As soon as it was enabled and I exited from the Windows Control Panel a message popped up asking me if I wanted to allow Firefox Software Updater to make changes ..... which I agreed to.

Almost immediately Firefox opened up with a message saying "Congratulations - you are using the latest version of Firefox" ( or something very similar to that ).

I tried the National Lottery Home Page and it opened correctly, with all the Graphics etc !  :-)

According the Firefox "About" menu, I now have Firefox Browser 76.0 (64-bit) which was released today.

It seems a hell of a co-incidence though that this update appeared immediately I made the above changes to the Windows Firewall settings - and I don't like co-incidences !

Strangely, the Chrome Browser still doesn't open the National Lottery page properly, so I'm now left wondering if the change I made to the Firewall setting is what fixed the problem in Firefox, or whether it was the co-incidental update of the Firefox Browser that did the trick !

I have gone back and changed the Windows Firewall settings back so that "Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol" is not allowed, and the National Lottery Home Page still opens correctly in Firefox.

It doesn't open correctly in the Chrome Browser !

So for Firefox ( at east for now ) the probem is resolved, but I don't know why !

My suspicions are that "National Lottery" Web site introduced something that was permitted by Internet Explorer, and initially Chome, but not by Firefox, and there may have been a further change by ""National Lottery" that Chrome didn't like, ( and still doesn't ), and the Firefox update today has now allowed "what ever it is" to work !

( Told you I was still confused ! )

Thanks.

Hi Alan M:

Writing a complex modern web site is difficult for software developers. I doubt that "Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol" in the firewall or Firefox update has anything to do with it ; my guess is that was a coincidence. It could also be that the National Lottery folks changed their coding and broke Chrome but that also seems unlikely. If this hasn't been done already, I'd say contact the National Lottery folks.

Cheers!

I think it might be co-incidental that I changed the Firewall settings at the same time as the Firefox Update came out.

Having changed the Firewall setting back to how it was, it doesn't seem to have had any effect on this issue.

I STRONGLY suspect that there is "something" withithe latest Fiorefiox Version that has now allowed the web site to display as intended - it was nto wkring correctly immediately before the Firefox update, and was working immediately after it.

Anyway, I bought my Ticket for yesterday evening's draw, and had an email overnight daying that I had won !  :-)

All I need to do is Log on to their Web site to find out how much !

... and wouldn't you believe it - their Web Site is DOWN - for everyone, on any Browser !

So even though I know Firefox should be able to display their Web Pages as soon as they are back up and running, I won't know if I am a multi millionaire or not until then !
