I use nightly and i didn't do anything but today i open it up and ALL my addons are disabled and there is NO option to enable them. I switched to the appearance tab and those can be re enabled but none of the addons. Did it do a background update and lose all compatibility?

Have you rebooted your computer since the issue began?
You Firefox may have opened in safe mode. See if a reboot of your computer will fix it.

If a reboot of your computer and Firefox does not help, please try resetting Firefox. (More Details)
This will reset most Firefox settings to their original state. You will also lose your current extensions and will need to reinstall them after the reset.

resetting did it, had to re download all the addons though and some of them dont seem to be there. Then again the addon store is stupidly picky about your spelling...

Check out FEBE and OPIE from the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page. Lots of good stuff here. BTW, this is how I set it up, In the beginning, I let Mozilla Add-ons Web Page keep track of what I had. All you have to do is to log in (create a user account) and on each web page for the add-ons, upper right, select that add-on as a favorite. The site will track that info for you. To find them again, go to your profile. FEBE and OPIE makes all this a whole lot easier.

Not all Extensions will work at all or properly in the Nightly development test builds especially since November 18 ever since the Australis ui was added in. Any Extensions that does not work make sure you look for the latest update or even the beta version on version history page of extension on a.m.o as the Author may have a update in progress.

Nightly builds gets checkins pretty much every day so therefore a update each of those days and sometimes things can break or have a regression that day or longer. In some cases changes are done on purpose in which the extension needs a update.
