Firefox crashes when opening any Adobe pdf document from internet. This only seems to happens with firefox 6.0.2. Pls assist how to solve problem
Good day,
Please note Firefox is crashing every time I tried to open a pdf document I find in any internet webside. This is happening since I have installed Firefox 6.0.2. I temporarily solved the issue going back to Firefox 5. The problem is that my Mac installs automatically all the updates that might come from Firefox, including new or greater versions.... So, here I am again with Firefox 6.0.2 and not able to open Adobe pdf documents.....
Would you please kindly assist to fix this issue...? Please note I have systematically sent a report every time Firefox has crashed, so you might have quite a few by now!
Many thanks in advance for all your help and assistance.
Francesca.

Firefox Crashes when Loading PDFs
Check and tell if its working.
thanks a lot for quick reply! i am following all the steps.... however the very last part when i have to press crtl over the two preferences (one at a time) i can not see the 'Reset' bottom anywhere.... could you assist...? sorry i am very plain computer user...... many thanks again!
Close all Firefox Tabs & Windows (except about:config tab) before proceeding to the last part.
-> right-click on a preference (a context menu will open) and select Reset
Check and tell if its working.
hanks for your message mha007. Unfortunately, I have not been able to solve the problem yet...
Arrived to the point of the right click on a preference. Then a small window in my Mac opens with the following menu: Toggle Copy Copy name Copy value Reset
Yes, Reset appears there but is not highlighted meaning I can not click on it... or that bottom is not active... What I should do next...?
Thanks!
- Preferences that have been modified are shown as bold (user set).
- Preferences can be Reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.
The preferences on which Reset is greyed (not available), are they appearing in Bold Text or Normal ??
hello again ma007! they look to me like normal text.... how can i get 'reset' available...? if you are awake, perhaps we can have a live chat?
i can now confirm that the two preferences that appear after the filter general.useragent are default preferences...
You will need to try some other options then.
-> Close Firefox (click Firefox button and click Exit OR File Menu -> Exit)
-> Start Firefox in Safe Mode by Holding down the Option key while starting your Mozilla Firefox application. (If the Profile Manager opens, select a profile and then hold down the Option key again while clicking the button to start Firefox.)
- As an alternate method, go to Utilities (in the Applications folder) and open Terminal, then run:
- /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-mode
-> Firefox Safe Mode window will appear -> DON'T SELECT ANY OPTIONS, just click Continue in Safe Mode
Check and tell if its working while you are using Firefox Safe Mode.

IF it still doesn't work, Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
-> Basic Troubleshooting: Make a New Profile
IF that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.
-> Recovering important data from an old profile
Check and tell if it works.

I got mine working by following these instructions.
turned out to be a corrupted file...

Could you enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar to get a list of Submitted Crash Reports and post a link to one of those crashes, from when you tried downloading a PDF file in Firefox 6 ?
See Mozilla Crash Reporter (under Viewing crash reports) and Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) (under Get help fixing this crash) for more info.
