Mozilla Thunderbird - customising toolbars

I inadvertently "hid" the Mail toolbar (the one that contains the button to select the menu containing the Customise function). As a result, I can no longer access the option to show/hide the toolbars and can't select "Write", Address book" etc. (I can't remember what the other options are on this toolbar). How can I show this toolbar? Do I have to reload Thunderbird again? And if I do this, will I lose my address books etc?
