see what i have in there are not what you would call conventional drafts what i have in there are for example. registration keys for programs, some photos, how do down load some programs.Mostly important info that may not be what one would call drafts. what is in the drafts folder is important to me whether it be actual drafts . Not what you may call drafts however should that mateer if i want to to make a back up folder on the desktop. Again this iwll be a back up I do not want to remove the original drafts folder from Thunderbird od make a second drafts folder in thunderbird I just want to have a back u up folder somewhere incase Im lose thunderbird some how or if i have to reinstall thunderbird from scratch

A full backup will save all mails, address books, filters, preferences etc etc. If you are using pop or imap you would be advised to create a full backup once in a while. Imap accounts only show what is on server regardless of whether you download headers or full copies.

You can export any individual folder as an mbox file to any designated folder on desktop using this addon extension: ImportExportTools.

How to install an addon extension:

Right click on Drafts folder > importExportTools > Export folder

No worries, you haven't done it before.

Locate the 'Thunderbird' folder here: C:\Users\Mary\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

Exit Thunderbird now because otherwise those files and folders will be in use and cannot be copied successfully.

Then right click on the Roaming\ Thunderbird folder and select 'Copy'

Open the backup folder you have created on desktop. Right click in the blank area in folder and select 'Paste'.

The 'Thunderbird' folder should then get copied to that backup folder.

Then you can start Thunderbird again.
