I have been trying for several days to install the latest version of Firefox. Here is a list of my various attempts, any help is much appreciated.

Normal "online" update (Firefox Installer.exe) - Fails about 90% of the way through the installation. Throws an error message "Hmm. For some reason, we could not install Firefox. Choose OK to start over."

Full download version (Firefox Setup 60_0_2.exe) - Installation never starts, no screen ever shows, even after hours. Task manager does show Firefox Install running though nothing ever happens.

I am on a work AWS client so I do not have full Admin rights to the machine, but all past versions install fine with my "Elevated Permissions".

Have also tried using 7-zip to pre-extract the files from the exes, same results for both. Also have followed the instructions from the Support site to do a full uninstall, manually remove all directories, run Disk cleanup, then install... None of these have worked.

Chosen solution

So I have been able to recover Firefox by performing the following steps.

Download the full install (Firefox Setup 61_0_2.exe) Use 7-Zip to extract the files from this Exe Take the extracted folder 'core' and copy / rename it to... ...\Programs\Mozilla Firefox From there I can run the executable and sync and other functionality seems to be working fine.

Seems that the "installation" process is just broken for my virtual AWS environment.

Hi routzong, do you have access to the Windows Task Manager or Event Logs? If the the full "offline" installer is not starting, it may be relevant whether it is "stalled" as shown by a lack of activity in the Windows Task Manager, or whether it has been "killed" as shown in the Event Viewer.

What is the latest version that installed without difficulty on this same (virtual?) machine?

Does the Enterprise Edition (Firefox 60 ESR) install more successfully? https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/enterprise/

As far as I know, Firefox 60 ESR can use a Firefox 61 profile if there is one already on the system. But profiles may be not be downward compatible for very many versions going forward.

Yes I have access to Task Manager and Event Logs (all except Security). When I run the full install I can see it in Task Manager, but nothing ever happens, so I would lean towards "stalled". Nothing on it in the Event Viewer, other than the successful "receipt" of Elevated Permissions I get when I first start it.

I have also just tried to install v60.0.2 and am seeing the same issue

This is a virtual environment.

I also tried the install on my local machine and it works fine.
