Hi, Newest update of Firefox (57) downloaded itself this morning and now is not working on my Windows 10 p.c. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've tried troubleshooting, I've tried opening the file from where it installed itself (C://ME/apps/ etc etc) but it is totally non responsive. Old desktop shortcut disappeared and no new desktop shortcut was created and I so have had to dig down into the machine to find the new update and then all attempts to open it fail.....how can I fix this please? Previous version of Firefox worked fine so I have reinstalled that in order to be able to contact you. Thanks for your help. Sally

Hello, let's try Safe Mode!

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

In safe mode goto about:support and click on Refresh Firefox. This might fix your issues, if it did -- mark as solution!

Problem is that I don't have a firefox option to open using the new update which is the one with the issue. I am using an older version to be able to get anywhere near firefox at the moment. There is no issue with this older version so I don't need to 'safe mode' it. I can't open in 'safe mode' with the new update as there is no way to open the updated folder/app. in order to be able to troubleshoot it.....hmmmmmmmmm
