For my job, I have to open hundreds of PDF documents daily. Currently, when opening PDF documents, Firefox opens an empty new tab in addition to bringing up the "Open or Save As" dialog. How can I fix my settings such that Firefox automatically opens the PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader without it also opening an empty new tab?

Try to hold down the Alt key to save a file with a left-click.

You can set this pref to true on the about:config page.

  • browser.altClickSave = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
