Thunderbird 45.1.0 Not Responding in Win7Pro 64bit. SOLVED by installing 45.1.1
I've used TB for many years, always installing updates. Never a problem until May 25 or 25 when an update was offered. I didn't install update right away and TB has been Not Responding after first click to select a mailbox or a message since then.
I use only email, no newsgroups. I've had 6 email accounts loaded in TB for 5-6 years but download messages for only 2 of those 6 accounts.
My system is Dell 1569 with 2.4GHz i5 and-4GB RAM running Win7Pro SP1 64bit & TB 45.1.0 with Malware Pro V2016.06.02.04. I don't allow MS to do any updates since I've found they dramatically slow down a laptop if MS S/W is updated.
I've tried TB Safe Mode with/wo MalWare, Win in Safe Mode w/wo MalWare and Win & TB both in Safe Mode w/wo MalWare and always the same: TB Not Responding. I've removed TB and installed the latest version twice and problem persists.
There have been no other HW/SW changes to my laptop and MalWare full scans find nothing.
Does TB have any upper limits on messages or file sizes?
What email system do you recommend if TB cannot work as it did before?

Wayne Mery saidIf you tested in Windows safe mode with no change in results, then ... 1. delete the Thunderbird _program_ directory (not the data profile folder) 2. reinstall Thunderbird program from http://getthunderbird.com/ please post your resultsWayne - Already BTDT 3-4 times. Always used a fresh download of T-Bird. Always deleted Thunderbird sub-directory in Program (x86) directory.
I couldn't find the global-messages-db.sqlite file.
Okay Wayne,
The 5th time worked like a charm. A 5th is what I needed today.
The 4 new installs with Thunderbird Setup 45.1.0.exe failed to fix the problem all 4 times I tried it.
A new install today, with the newly released Thunderbird Setup 45.1.1.exe worked.

I suggest you keep on with the diagnostic steps here https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems#Diagnosis_Steps
In particular look at the global index.
None of the steps at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems#Diagnosis_Steps helped. I couldn't find the global-messages-db.sqlite file. I did find a urlclassifier3.sqlite and an index.sqlite file. Do those need to be renamed and restored?
The problem occurred when T-Bird updated (without my okay) on 4-26-16. I've uploaded the XML and LOG file from that update to http://mei.net/~bob/T-Bird/updates/ XML files are at http://mei.net/~bob/T-Bird/updates/8216C80C92C4E828/ LOG files are at http://mei.net/~bob/T-Bird/updates/8216C80C92C4E828/updates/
The largest Mail file is 360MB. There is no panacea.dat cache file in my profile. There are 5-6 email accounts, all under my profile.
If you tested in Windows safe mode with no change in results, then ...
1. delete the Thunderbird _program_ directory (not the data profile folder) 2. reinstall Thunderbird program from http://getthunderbird.com/
please post your results

The quoted section should be ignored as the problem started about May 26, not April 26th. My mistake in forgetting this started in May.

Incomplete sentence: I've had Windoze indexing turned off for several years. The only thing indexed is IE history. I'm running IE Version 11.0.22 KB3078071 from 2013.

I don't understand that at all. (oh I understand the words, just not the outcome)
Doesn't make sense to me either. But 45.1.1 would have a different hash/checksum than 45.1.0
Still having problem--even in 45.2.0
