For some reason, the small icons at the front of almost all of my bookmarks have turned into a small gray circle, sort of looks like a globe with gray for land and white for water. This just happened in the last few days. No other virus or malware activity apparent on my computer.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
