Why have "sent" messages ceased to appear in the file? The inbox still works.

For three days no message is shown in the Sent folder, nor do messages sent show in draft or outbox. I delete regularly, so I must have space for these messages. Messages received are still shown in the In-box folder.

Grateful for any help.

Chosen solution

To check if Sent is now working properly, I will send more and ask for replies.

Please confirm sending messages works, as well as copying to the Sent folder. Messages should get copied to Sent. Messages should neither get copied to Sent/[email protected] nor to Sent/Local Folders.

How Sent/[email protected] and Sent/Local Folders have been created in the first place is beyond me, that's something you'd need to explain.

Your folder pane is still a complete mess, but you may address that in a separate topic. Or just leave it as it is as long as it doesn't bother you.

What is your account type - POP or IMAP?

more options

Thanks for your reply, Christ1.

I use POP. My Sent folder has two components. "Local folders" stopped showing anything after 24 Dec; "[email protected]" shows five messages after 24 Dec, tests within the house (other computer, tablet). "Sent" shows both sets but not any other messages I have sent.

I don't know why these two components are in the folder - they don't seem useful.

My Sent folder has two components.

I'm don't think I understand what you mean with 'components'. Can you provide a screenshot? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Thank you Christ1. I am learning new stuff. I attach the screen shots for the sent file and components. Sending now seems erratic - a message seems to have been sent successfully today!

From your screenshots you created a complete mess with your folder tree. How did you manage to do that?

From the Troubleshooting Information it looks like there are three Outgoing servers. Is there any particular reason for it?

account3: INCOMING: account3, , (pop3) shawmail.gv.shawcable.net:110, plain, passwordCleartext OUTGOING: shawmail.gv.shawcable.net:25, plain, none, true OUTGOING: shawmail.gv.shawcable.net, plain, none, false OUTGOING: shawmail.gv.shawcable.net:25, plain, none, false

None of the Outgoing servers does have authentication configured. Is that what Shaw require? I doubt it. Can you send messages at all?

Thank you Christ1. MOST messages seem to be sent now but often they do not appear in the "Sent" file.

Check your settings: At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options > Account Settings - Copies & Folders - When sending messages, automatically place a copy in

Which folder is designated as Sent folder?

Thank you for your patience.

My mgs to you seem to be sent but do not show in the "sent" folder. I will now try to add the screenshot of "Copies and folders".

It does not show on the preview; I will try again later.

As an aside, you seem to be using Unified Folders view. This groups similar folders together, so you get one composite Inbox, showing you the collected contents of all your Inboxes, with the individual Inboxes shown as children. Sent, Drafts, Trash and Junk are treated similarly.

If that's what you want, then fine. If you want the standard view, then in the menu, try View|Folders|All.

I don't think this affects your Sent messages issue, except that I don't trust Unified Folders view. It often gets message counts wrong and I have a vague suspicion that it doesn't always show you all the messages. The "All" view gets you back to basics.

more options

When I go to folders ALL, under [email protected] there is the Inbox and and Sent. In the Sent file there are some of the msgs sent from 27 Dec to 31 Dec (but not ours). Under UNIFIED, the msgs are combined, i.e., from the last delete to 31 Dec, but again not all (e.g., ours).

more options

Please do not use 'Unified' view for the time being, stick with 'All' view.

but again not all (e.g., ours).

What do you mean with 'ours'?

Please check the location for your shawmail.gv.shawcable.net account and post a screenshot of the result. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings - Local Directory

Then right-click the Sent folder in the folder pane - Properties Copy the entire path in the 'Location' field and paste it into your reply.

Are you using any additional alias email addresses for your shawmail.gv.shawcable.net account?

Thank you again - you are very patient. The screenshot of the local directory is attached. I could not copy the Location field to paste. It is:

mailbox:///C:/Users/Owner/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profile/91tt7bvm.default/Mail/shawmail.gv.shawcable-1.net/Sent

In the folder column, under [email protected] there is Inbox, Sent, and Deleted. In Sent there are only messages from 27 Dec (none of my replies to you are shown - these are the "ours" that I referred to in the previous reply).

Under Local folders, there are only messages up to 24 Dec.

Best wishes,

H

Better, but we need to see the same window when the hgstead@shaw.ca account is selected.

The screenshot of the local directory is attached.

I was looking for the 'Local Directory' information of your shaw.ca account, Try again: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1101312#answer-825627 Make sure the actual directory is visible, you may need to scroll to the right. Or copy the 'Local Directory' information and paste it into your reply.

In Sent there are only messages from 27 Dec (none of my replies to you are shown - these are the "ours" that I referred to in the previous reply).

This is a web forum, and you post via browser, not via email. In other words, there are no sent messages to this forum. I'm wondering if there are any 'missing' messages at all.

more options

Sorry, did not realize the difference between browser replies and email replies (I should stick to my quill pen).

The local directory - which I do not seem to be able to copy and paste - is

C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\91tt7bvm.default\Mail\shawmail.gv.shawcable-1.net

Perhaps the only missing messages are those between 24 and 27 Dec. To check if Sent is now working properly, I will send more and ask for replies.

more options

OK, good, that folder is in your profile. We don't need you go off looking for it.

Did you replace your own name by "Owner"? Or is that really the user account being used?

more options

Owner was probably put there when Thunderbird was originally installed. No one else uses this computer.
