How to transfer email when windows easy transfer does not show thunderbird under Application Settings?

Mozilla help page (at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer) instructs users to use Windows Easy Transfer for transferring mail to a new machine, and the step which says to use Advanced Options to select Thunderbird from Application Data list cannot be completed if Thunderbird is not listed as an option. (My Windows Vista machine lists only Microsoft Works 8.0, QuickTime Player, Windows Media Player, and Windows Movie Maker v2.1 - which I have never used.) Is there some way to nudge Windows Easy Transfer to make it aware of Thunderbird's presence? I have been using Thunderbird for 4 years on that machine, and am currently running version 3.1.11, in case that makes any difference...

I would appreciate any guidance that could help me get past this obstacle.

Where in the article 'Windows Easy Transfer' is mentioned?

I would appreciate any guidance that could help me get past this obstacle.

Simply follow the instructions from the article. If you do have a specific question, ask here.

"Where in the article 'Windows Easy Transfer' is mentioned?"

Sorry, "christ1"

If I click on that direct link the support page it says it is not found. But if I google search for "mozilla thunderbird how to transfer email" it gives that link as a search hit, from that search hit link I can get the page, and the top of that page is copied below. What is the first thing it says to run?

The largely-manual gmail workaround it describes is not terribly feasible with many categorized saved-mail folders.

Windows Easy Transfer Wizard

Recent versions of Windows come with an Easy Transfer Wizard which offers to transfer your data, documents, videos and email to your new computer. The default settings for this transfer wizard do not transfer Thunderbird data to your new computer. However, it is simple to make the changes necessary to have the software move your Thunderbird data.

Once the wizard has finished the "Checking what can be transferred" routine, a customize option will appear under the account name. Click this option to open a dialog that provides access to advanced options.

When you posted the link you did include a closing bracket. Remove that and the link will work. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I can't help with the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard. Never used it, and probably never will.

Sorry about the link mess -- I just copy/pasted the url from my browser. I doubt I'll use Windows Easy Transfer Wizard again, either, if I can help it.

But I reckon I still have my original question. Thanks, anyway.

As said before, follow the instructions in the article.

I did. The results did not follow those described. (the system does not list Thunderbird as an option as shown) Hence my question.......
