My profile is very old, maybe 9 years, and now the map is so big , files so big that i want to start again with thunderbird, but keep old data readable on another backup-disk. The reason is that when TB (after sending an email) wants to copy the message to the sent-folder, There is a error and the message is not writen in de sent-map. I do not want to clearaly remove the old profile, but want to stock it as a readable back up. Thanks answering me Guy van der velden

Right click the sent folder and select compact. Right click again and select properties. What size in the folder on disk?

Those file sizes are unlikely to cause an issue. Way smaller than any I have had problems with, Around 4Gb is the usual problem size.

Try restarting in safe mode and see if there is improvement.

Thunderbird safe mode hold shift while you click to start and also windows safe mode with networking. Instructions for Windows 8 here
