How can I tell if Java is installed/enabled in Firefox browser on my Linux system? I went to Oracle/Java test page and it cannot find Java installed.
I see that Javascript is enabled. Is javascript and java the same thing?

To avoid confusion:
Note that you have the IcedTea-Web Plugin installed and that is different Java implementation than the Oracle (formerly Sun) Java plugin, so the Oracle may not detect this plugin.

Hello,
Java and Javascript are not the same. While both are computer languages to develop programs in, Javascript has a more focused approach towards Internet sites, while Java has a wider reach.
You can follow the instructions in this article to install Java on Linux Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites. Also, please ensure you are running the latest version of Java by following the instructions below.
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Thanks for the reply it helps with my understanding. It brings up another question: How can I get Firefox to see the applet I want to execute? I am new to Java/JavaScript. I am working in Eclipse and do not see how I can get Firefox to see the path where the applet is sitting.
