Having problems configuring colors

I have TB 102 and have noticed that even if I get a dark mode theme, the email area (where you type) is still gray. A huge problem for me is that if I change some email's text color to blue or purple (as examples), I really can no longer read it with that grey background.

Having searched around, it doesn't seem to be possible to configure the email area background colors or get a theme that works with these other colors OTHER than to use a light theme.

Is this correct?

I've tried lots of themes, but they seem to basically change the color of the program border or make slight changes, but I still seem to lack basic control over the background colors.

Do I need to install a plugin?

Thanks in advance,

You might try the addon called 'Dark Reader' to see if it helps.

I am more than a little concerned by the confirmation prompt that these extensions show before installation -- written by whomever -- would have full access to all my emails, to my computer, etc.

Since there's no apparent easy way to control the colors in TB, I think the best choice is Postbox where I can edit the CSS.

Thanks

Thunderbird does allow CSS, but I agree that the documentation is difficult to find. Postbox does have a flare for color options. For color, Postbox would be impossible to beat.
