Yahoo has hijacked my searches from my Bing homepage and also from my Google tab in menu bar - I need to get rid of it as I find it select items that are of no interest and ignores what I have requested as my search.

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if more extensions show up. You can also check the about:support page.

You can do a malware scan just to be sure.

You can check "Windows Control Panel -> Programs" for recently installed programs to see if any suspicious software shows up.

  • Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> Uninstall or change a program
  • click the Installed column to sort by this heading

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; (<Control> [Mac=<Command>] <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Remove “ Yahoo “ Anything.

Also remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine, securedsearch

Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Hi Fred - I tried typing Addons in the Firefox address bar, but it changes it to 'about addons' and then I get a screen 'Hmm. That address doesn’t look right. Please check that the URL is correct and try again'.

I am using windows 7 as my operating system and Bing as my internet home page. Regards Roger

Hi Fred - You must think me a real numpty - I have followed your advice and found the Extensions page, but the only add-ons visible are U-Block Origin, Downloadhelper and Awesome Screenshot Screen capture. I have disabled the latter, but really need to keep D'loadhelper and the adblocker. Yahoo still seem to be getting in from somewhere, but I can't figure out where. Best regards Roger

Many thanks for your help - Yahoo seems to have gone since I deleted one of the addons - the screenshot capture - Fingers crossed it stays that way - Thanks again - Regards Roger
