drop down search menu/address bar - remove google and amazon

more options

I don't want to see either google or amazon on my search menu, but can't find a way to remove them - I am using Ecosia as my default but the option does not drop down in the address bar. The video aks me to click preferences on the menu, but I do not see 'preferences' there. Help please!

hello,

To disable the drop-down from opening automatically when the cursor enters the address bar:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk. (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered (3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus preference to switch the value from true to false

After that, to show the classic history list in the drop-down, you can either:

  • press the space bar (type a space)
  • press the down arrow key
  • type ^ to initiate a history search

I hope resolved the problem then reply back to me.

Hi snowfalcon1, I assume you are referring to the list that drops-down automatically when the cursor enters the address bar?

Starting in Firefox 75 -- although some users disabled it in Firefox 75-76 through about:config -- Firefox shows your first 8 Top Sites from the new tab page when the cursor enters the address bar. This includes some pinned search shortcuts that you can remove from the list by making edits on the new tab page. More info in this article:

Hi snowfalcon1, if you meant the icons that appear along the bottom of the drop-down ("This time search with") then you would adjust those choices on the Options page, Search panel, "One-click search engines" box. Click the check marks to "uncheck" the ones you want to hide. More info: Change your default search settings in Firefox.
