I now have 2 Sent folders. "Sent" & "SentMail" Why? Sent has all my previous sent mail. SentMail has the newest (4 or 5) emails that I have sent today.
All my previous sent messages (many years worth) are in the Sent Folder on Thunderbird. Today suddenly a new SentMail folder has shown up and the past 4 or 5 emails have been put there. Are they really being sent? Why the new folder? I use Thunderbird on my laptop (always have) and my email provider is AOL. When I go to the AOL account, the new emails that are in the SentMail folder are not showing up there. Can't tell from that if they are being sent.

'Sent' does not sound like the AOL server folder. It sounds more like a folder auto created for 'Sent' mail.
'SentMail' is the server folder as it is shown in webmail. If it has just shown up then maybe has only just been subscribed to be seen. Check it is properly subscribed.
- Right click on imap mail account folder in Folder Pane and select 'Subscribe'
- select 'SentMail' folder and click on 'Subscribe'
- click on OK
Now check that the webmail page. Check it is refreshed to show up to date information.

Thank you, I think that portion is resolved. But I have some other pressing issues with Thunderbird and I will address that question separately.
I have my email imap sent files set to go to a local sent, not the imap accnt. But I am recently getting copies in both. I do not care to have my sent file going to the imap sent. [email protected]
phil_munro When you send mail via the same imap account email address and server, the server will put a copy in the server Sent folder; this does not occur with pop mail accounts. As you have subscribed to see the server Sent folder, you will see emails in that folder because it is synchronised with server. The server Sent folder is usually automatically selected as a subscribed imap folder. The idea of imap is that you get to see server folders, not just the Inbox. Pop only gets access to Inbox in order to download emails, but pop does not synchronise with server, this means the server Inbox may have different emails from what you have in a pop mail account Inbox.
