In Firefox Preferences under Tab I have checked: "Ctr + Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order", I have checked: "Open a new windows in a new tab" and I have checked: "Open a new link in a new tab, switch to it immediately."

When I make a selection it does not open in a new tab. How do I get it to open in a new tab. I thought I made the proper selections.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, opening links in a new tab is not a Firefox default. You can right click > Open Link in New Tab, or hold down Ctrl when you click the link, or click the mouse wheel.

There are also add-ons such as

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/right-links/

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Notre that the setting in Options/Preferences only applies to links that specify a target window. The Tab setting allow to divert this to a new tab instead.

Note that on Mac you would have to hold down the Command key to open the link in a new tab with a left-click.
