URL/History drop-down suddenly widescreen?

more options

Randomly after closing and re-opening Firefox (probably a hidden update) I found the dropdown menu for the URL bar is now the entire length of the window instead of just the horizontal length of the URL bar.

How do I get this back to the way it was? It's annoying when the window is maximized because all the sites are on the left side of the window now.

yes this is a problem.. also the -visit and -search entries are forced on you again as well as a horrible looking font with titles and url's all messed up.

PLEASE offer a way to go back to pre 48 style (or more like the base OS style)

Firefox 48 now has both the title and the URL on the same line instead of "stacked", so additional width was allowed for display.

There isn't a built-in way to revert this. There is a beta version of the Classic Theme Restorer extension which reverts the layout of the bar (see attached screenshot), or if you wait a day or two, a single-purpose fix might appear.

PPNSteve, I addressed your issue about the Visit/Search bar in your question here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1133534

I created an experimental two-line autocomplete drop-down for Firefox 48 with a more modest width and incorporated into my existing URL Bar Tweaks userstyle.

See attached screen shot.

I've only tried it on Windows 7 (Aero) so far, so it probably needs some edits for other platforms, but it's a start.

Note: You can apply custom style rules to Firefox's interface using either the Stylish extension or a userChrome.css file:
