I'm not sure I fully understand your situation.
First, to clarify about history vs. tracking:
- Mozilla doesn't track you, but your browser normally records history as you browse. This is managed by history settings, not tracking settings.
- In private windows, history is not recorded regularly and is lost when you close all private windows.
- The "Do Not Track" feature sends a signal to sites that you prefer not to be tracked, and it's up to them to decide.
- The "Tracking Protection" feature blocks some page content from loading if it is on a list of known tracking sites.

Could you tell me your setting on the Options page, Privacy panel? Either:
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
- type or paste about:preferences in the address bar and press Enter
In the left column, click Privacy. Do you have one of these?
- Firefox will: Never remember history, or
- Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Remember my browsing and download history is NOT CHECKED
Which arrow are you clicking? For example:
- Triangle in the address bar
- "Back" button (right-click to view tab history)
- Something else
when i bring up the delete history bars.... the form and search bar won't let me put a check in the box to delete it all the others do..... if i high light it will that delete it ?
Is this in the "Clear Recent History" dialog or a different dialog? See: Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox. Hmm, I see it's grayed out in that article, too, but mine is not grayed out. I wonder why the difference?
