The selection box is gone so that can only be in the sent mode. Even if I shut down & reboot the emails come up in the sent mode with no exit possible. I can go to the explorer & sign in on Comcast & find my incoming emails that way but would like to get back to your system.

Maybe your "selection box" is the folder pane that is normally down the left side of the window with all your account folders listed.

Do you have a Menu Bar with File-Edit-View etc showing? If not press the alt key to make it appear.

From the Menu Bar select View-Layout-Folder Pane

Is the Folder Pane checked and it is still not showing?

If yes, make sure your Thunderbird window is Maximized. Then move your mouse to the left side of the window and watch for it to change into a double headed arrow. When it does, left click, hold and drag to the right to uncover the folder pane.
