Safari can't open Firefox
I just set up an account with parental controls on my Mac for my kids. I currently have Firefox and want them to have it also, but every time I try to type firefox.com, it says "Safari can't open site". Any ideas?
Chosen solution
It happened if I just typed it in the browsing box also...not just Google. Sorry I didn't mention that. I went in and turned off parental controls, went back to see if I could go to the Foxfire site and it let me in and downloaded. Parental controls turned back on and Foxfire is our default browser. :) Happy Camper. Thank you for offering to help!

I am not a Mac user but isn't Safari just a browser
If you type firefox.com into a browser the results may be rather variable, what is it you are actually trying to do ?
- Set up a separate account for the children to use ?

Hi John99..... I had my original account and used Safari, which IS a browser. My kids are homeschooled and used my account up to this point. When we started homeschooling, we realized that Safari did not support the schools web site, so through Safari via Google, I searched for another browser and found Firefox. I went to Firefox's page and just downloaded it and set it as my default browser then. Just yesterday, I set up a separate account for my kids so I could utilize the parental controls. Now I'm trying to set Firefox as the browser for their account, because, again, Safari will not support k12.com in all areas of the page, but Firefox does. When I go to Google Firefox on their account to set them up.. it won't let me and gives the "Safari can't open page" message. I'm just wondering if I need to shut off parental controls briefly in order to do this??? Hmm... Thank you for trying to help.
I do not see why you try to Google Firefox
All that does is find websites relating to Firefox.
What you need to do is ensure that Firefox is installed and available from the Children’s Mac accounts. Once that has been done then you need to work from those Firefox accounts of your children on your computer and register them from there with the schooling website.
So try the following: are you able to
- use the Mac computer as one of your Children ?
- Open and use Firefox from one of the Children's accounts for general browsing ?
- Navigate to the schooling website ?
and at least open the general and public webpages there?
From what you say that may also involve installing or using other software and you mention http://www.k12.com/ . Contact them if you need any further help with that part of the process. Presumably if you have already registered your children for the schooling but used your own account you may need to re register them using their own accounts .
I may not have expected parental controls to prevent you registering to a schooling site, however I do not know what software you are using for parental controls. If the schooling site needs subscription fees maybe it gets blocked for that reason.

Glad you got it sorted. I have marked your answer as the thread solution.
