After upgrading to the new version, 27.0.1, my right-click function to Open link in New Tab stopped working. I cannot open in new window either. When I click the link that I would like to open in new tab or window, the right click window appears, I click on the desired function, and the right click window closes and nothing happens.

I have also noticed that there are many additional functions that now appear on the right-click window, eg.

Play, Pause, Mute, Unmute, etc. Reload image, View Image, View Video, etc. This Frame, View Selection Source, etc.

They could have been there but I do not remember these functions available before. They may have been BUT it may just be the case of not really noticing them because everything worked and now that I can't open new tabs/windows, I now notice them. Not sure if this is related to the issue or not. I have the following extensions running:

ColorZilla 2.6.4.1 Dictionary.com 2.0.0 Firebug 1.8.4 InstantFox 2.8.7

I did disable them to see if they may have been causing the issue but the problem still exists.

Hopefully someone can figure this out because I may need to switch browsers until this gets resolved. Unfortunately not too efficient!

Thanks!

Actually, the issue reappeared so I upgraded Firebug and it worked but it seems like Firebug was the issue.

Hello dotcoug, it your system details we can see that you have in your profile folder a User.js file.

The user.js file does not exist by default. If you create the file, forget it, if you have not create the file then delete the User.js file, to see if the problem goes away (some programs create and write in the file also).

thank you

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Did you disable the new tab page by setting browser.newtab.url to an empty string?

Note that you have enabled caret browsing.

You can toggle caret browsing on/off by pressing F7 (Mac: fn + F7).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Accessibility: [ ] "Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages"

Thanks for your help. I started FireFox in SafeMode and the right-click (open in new tab) function worked so then I just enabled my add-ons one at a time and it looks like Firebug was causing it - which totally sucks. But I guess when I need to use it, I will just enable. Thanks again to all who contributed.
