Hello, I recently tried to set up Sync on Firefox, and it seemed to go fine on my desktop running Debian and Iceweasel 21.0 from the mozilla repository.

However when I tried to connect my Mac's Firefox 21.0, I get an error. Firefox on OS X gives me the twelve character code to type into my Desktop, which works, but after that Firefox on OS X gives me an error saying my account or password is incorrect. I've double-checked I've entered the password correctly and about:settings shows I have the account name correct (it's my e-mail address).

I have the same error if I use the recovery key instead of the 12-char sync code thing.

Would appreciate any insight into what's going wrong here.

Chosen solution

Did you try to check the Firefox Password Manager to see if syn account data stored in it is correct?

  • Firefox > Preferences > Security: Passwords: "Remember passwords for sites"

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Are you still having this issue?

Hello, yes I am (now on Firefox 22). I've tried it on another computer and it worked so something seems to be wrong with this particular installation, I think.

Is there any more information I could provide to help diagnose this?

Thanks, the password was definitely stored correctly according to the password manager, and removing the stored details and setting up sync from scratch didn't work either.

However deleting the profile and recreating it before setting up sync from scratch did work, so I suppose there was something wrong with the profile. That's odd in itself since I only installed Firefox shortly before setting up Sync.

Anyway, thanks for your help, all my settings are now synced!
