The Mozilla Firefox icon has been reading Mozilla Firefox but now, it shows chrc....what does that mean, what significance is it, and why has it been changed?

Chosen solution

The text under your Firefox icon on the Windows desktop has changed to chrc...? I think you can rename it to anything you like, but I can't think of any reason for it to change on its own.

Could you right-click it and take a look at Properties? You would expect to see a "target" like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe". Anything sketchy there?

You can consider to set the desktop shortcut to read-only after changing if to Mozilla Firefox to avoid such changes.
