It's like dead. Not screen, just top menu bar: File, Edit, etc. Nothing responds.

Does Firefox work when you start in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode? (Hold down the option key, double-click on the Firefox icon and click the "Continue in Safe Mode" button.) The Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article has more information.

Yes, thank you. It does load up when opened by holding down option key and double clicking and clicking 'Safe Mode.' Great. Then it does not 'quit' when requested so I need to force quit. Today when I try to open Foxfire, it's the same issue all over again. yes, it does work again when you do the whole 'option' double click, etc Isn't there a way to just have this work like it's supposed to?

You could follow the suggestions in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article (disable extensions, default theme, turn off hardware acceleration) to see if one of those fixes the Firefox startup problem. Not sure why Firefox won't quit from Safe Mode, though.

The Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix article under the "Firefox hangs when you quit it" section mentions extensions (which are disabled in Safe Mode) and the Java plugin (which isn't). So, if you have Java installed (I gather it's optional on Mac 10.7 Lion) try disabling the Java Applet plugin from the Add-ons Manager Plugins list, to see if it helps. You could also copy the contents of the Firefox Help -> Troubleshooting Information page (restart in Firefox Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode if necessary) and paste it here, in case it contains any clues. See the Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues article for details.
