I used to be able to see the amount of disk space being used by Firefox before clearing the cache in Preferences>Advanced>Network>Offline Storage. Now, after upgrading to version 6.0 on my Mac, it no longer shows the amount and I am not sure the clear cache is even working. Is there a fix for this?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

Try this: type or paste about:cache in the location bar and press Enter.

Sorry ... I was on the wrong computer ... NOT the one with the problem. Duh!

Here's what I get on the computer w/ the issue:

Information about the Cache Service Memory cache device Number of entries: 54 Maximum storage size: 32768 KiB Storage in use: 407 KiB Inactive storage: 407 KiB List Cache Entries

Offline cache device Number of entries: 0 Maximum storage size: 512000 KiB Storage in use: 0 KiB Cache Directory: /Users/username/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/f4rbvp17.default/OfflineCache

In your first post you have a "Disk cache" entry but in the second one you only have a "Memory cache" entry. Is caching to disk disabled on the second system? (I think if you override automatic cache management and set the size to zero, that could disable it.)

The second post is on the actual computer that is having the problem not displaying the disk cache. I don't have the box checked for "Override Automatic Cache Management."

Is there a prefs file that deals w/ disk cache that may have gotten corrupted, and can it be deleted safely?

I think I may have solved my problem. I located the cache prefs files in:

/Users/username/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/f4rbvp17.default/Cache

I quit Firefox, then removed the folder, "f4rbvp17.default" and restarted Firefox. It created a new folder and now my Prefs show the Offline Storage as it's supposed to. Apparently one or more of the files got corrupted. All seems to be working now. Thx.

Thx cor-el. I never run Firefox in Private Browsing Mode. I checked all my Prefs settings and all was correct. I do think it was one of the files in the folder I mentioned above was corrupted.
