See clear recent history

There are many options to be considered depending on exactly what you are trying to do.

Often the Private Browsing option is useful because only certain items need hiding, sites unsuitable for other younger users, or finance related sites for instance. You can also selectively clear items or clear all the History.

Another consideration may be to use separate user accounts on your computer for different users, each account then has its own History. (It is also possible to set up separate firefox profiles for users but that can be less straightforward)

In private browsing no history is saved after the session, unless for instance you specifically save particular bookmarks. The Private browsing can be made permanent. See

I Forgot to mention it is also easy to not display the menu bar, the option is on the menu bar, however it is easy to turn it back on, now also by default it then appears under the Firefox Button.

You could also remove the history menu options but it is far from straightforward. see http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/815334
