Firefox 80.0 (64-bit), Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Insider build Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.487) This just started in the last 30 days or so. When run a speedtest in FF, the download speed is significantly lower that in a different browser, and more importantly, the upload test fails, and my wireless network disconnects. I have checked my network logs and I see no blocking taking place. I disabled DoH in FF settings and experienced the same results. Please observe screenshots, below. Note, I first noticed this in Version 79, but it's possible that it began earlier. I don't run speed tests frequently. Site = https://www.speedtest.net/ Connections = Multi Photos 1 & 2 are from within Firefox. Photo # 3 shows the identical test run on the same PC from Vivaldi Browser. I have tested after disabling extensions, and even from a private window, all with the same resuls. Please advise. Thank you! Pete M.

Hi,

please change the UserAgent string to mimic Chrome or Edge browser and run the test again.

more options

INTERESTING! Yes, changing the user agent resolved this. When I changed it back and tested again, the same thing occurred, and it disabled my 5GHZ wireless network connection again. This is quite frustrating.

Furthermore, testing over the 2.4 GHZ wireless network connection with the default agent works properly with no network interruption.

I checked adapter and router settings for differences, and find none. IP and DNS are assigned via DHCP by the router. DHCP is set to Cloudflare in the router. IPV6 is disabled on the wireless NICs.

Router is a TP-Link Archer C2300. There is nothing in the router log to indicate what is occurring.

I can enable fiddler and attach a log if you wish.

It should be obvious to anyone , that this benchmark produces fake results for Firefox.

more options

Paranoid? No, it seems obvious that there is a problem with Firefox since after changing the agent it still produces a much slower result than other browsers. Why does Firefox cause my wireless to need to be reset? Is this some kind of plot by TP-Link too? Also, why did it just start occurring recently after some major changes were made to Firefox?

I did not come here seeking conspiracy theories. I came looking for competent technical support.

more options

These seem far more likely reasons than "fake results" from a well-known and respected site:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can#w_ipv6

more options

Yes, I call it fake results, because speedtest.net appears to use user-agent sniffing to apply different methods of performing speedtests when using different browsers. This causes Firefox to use websockets (much slower method) while Chromium uses XHR, what makes comparing browsers impossible.

more options

It sounds more like a problem with how Firefox uses websockets. It worked fine until a month or so ago. What changes were made under the hood on Firefox that caused this?

Firefox used to be my go-to browser, but several years ago it went to hell and became extremely slow and unreliable, forcing me to find a different browser. I have been holding out hope that it will improve, but when something like this occurs, I become less hopeful. I still use it on a limited basis and have not fully abandoned it because it was once so good.

more options

Just to rule out your "fake results" claim, I changed the user agent on Vivaldi to be Firefox and ran the exact same test. NO ISSUES. Download AND upload speeds tested fine, and my wireless did not disconnect.

Once again, this points to a problem with Firefox itself.

The reason behind this problem can be the old version of your browser. It can be due to the wire or the router you are using because when I tried using it, it worked on my browser. Some speed test tools don’t work properly on all the browsers. The speed test tool I use works perfectly on all browsers. https://www.allspeedtest.com/ this speed test tool is working on the browser you have mentioned. Try using it, it calculates various aspects of the internet in a short time and helps to determine the actual problem.
