I get email on some devices but no all. I want to go back to "square one". Will I lose my user name and passwords if I start new?

I have made Thunderbird my default email. I keep getting messages "your mail server is not a IMAP4 server" or "enter your password " or security setting "OAuth2" instead of "normal password". What can I do? All I want is to send and receive emails on my tablet, desktop, and laptop devices. I am so confused now my only alternative may be to go back to stamps and envelopes. Help.
