My system has id'd a nonworking start menu and cortana (W10), but I am finding that Firefox is hung up somewhere. I can't locate it to close it or uninstall it.
When I force a shut down, and restart, I get a critical error (start menu and Cortana aren't working), and Firefox is hungup somewhere. I can not click to start it (from the program files folder--since no icons on the start bar displays).

That was very good work. Well Done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Close Firefox. Right click on the icon and select Open New Tab. Sometimes this works. If it opens, close it by Menu > File > Exit.
This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up in Windows. https://support.mozilla.org/questions/997866 {web link}
FredMcD, Thanks for your reply. In my case it didn't help because I had already rebooted at least twice and in rebooting only the Start Menu and Task View icons appeared on the Quick Launch ("no icons [display] on the start bar"). But I was able to resolve the problem of closing FireFox by using the Task Manager. Then when I rebooted, the other problems with Start Menu and Cortana also were corrected.
