There is something incredibly wrong in FF 35, after upgrading from 34 Firefox became completely unstable and unreliable. Links from external application 90% of the time do not open but just create a new Firefox process that remains idle forever. I tried in safe mode with no addons: same problems. I uninstalled Firefox completely and installation of FF 35 failed several times: process hung without the Import Wizard popup. However after installation compledted once sam problems as before, every link opened from an extaernal program (email, messenger etc) create a zombie Firefox process visible in Resource Monitor but nothing else.

Uninstalled again and reinstalled Firefox 34, all is ok as before. FF 34 has no problem at all. I have Windows 7 Ultimate, no AV, no Firewall. Never had such huge problems with FF so far, in so many years, I can not believe nobody realize which changes could cause this mess.

hello alextrov, since these symptoms can sometimes be caused by malware active on a system, please first run a scan with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & microsoft safety scanner.

Thanks Philipp, already done and found nothing. A malware selectively affect FF35 only? Also I don't see any of the symptoms listed in the troubleshoot page similar to mine :( I found other people here reporting these zombie processes profileration with FF 35.

I will wait for the release of FF 36 to give it another try.

have you tried all three tools listed? it is not uncommon that malware hooks into the browser and their mechanism causes things to break in new versions. for example see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1038482 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1035398

Note that Windows may activate its built-in firewall automatically if no other product is detected, so you may have to check its rules for Firefox.

The upgrade to FF 36.0 was ok, but still it happens that once in a while clicking on a link in an external program (usually TB) does not open the page on FF but just create a new FF process. Clicking again it works. I have ran again all 3 the suggested antimalware tools.

Any idea?

I can't believe I am the only one in the world with this problem ... I am thinking to make a video but I try to describe again the problem step by step first.

1) Clicking on a link in a Thunderbird the page correctly opens in Firefox. Looking at the Resource Monitor you can notice that every time you do this operation a new Firefox process is started and immediately is terminated after the page opened as a new tab in Firefox.

2) Clicking again on the same link, a new tab is again opened in FF

3) (This can happen at the first try on a link/URL or after 3-4 tries) Clicking again on the same link no tab is opened in FF, I see for a while the mouse with the "working" icon. A new FF process appears in Resource Monitor but is not terminated and remains there.

I can terminated manually the FF processes started in this way with no problem. It happens also using the contest menu "Open Link in Browser" It never happens opening the link in a TB tab It happens also with TB and /or FF in safe mode It happens clicking links in any other application, not only TB, including Windows Explorer (files manager) it does not happen with FF 34 and earlier versions

Please...
