I went to this website www.fafsa.ed.gov and it said that I need a compatible secure browser. They said I have an incompatible browser so I upgraded my mozilla firefox to 5.0 and it still says I have an incompatible browser. What do I need to fix this problem so that I can go on this site and others as well?

The fafsa.ed.gov site is only compatible up through Firefox version 3.6.x. That is fafsa's choice. If you have a current copy of IE on your system (IE8 or higher, fully updated from the Windows/Microsoft Update site), then you can try the following Add-on for Firefox. It will allow you to open a tab in Firefox that uses your currently installed IE to display the page.

You need to update the following. The Plugin version(s) shown below was/were submitted with your question and is/are out of date. You should update to avoid known security issues with the version(s) you have installed. Click on "More system info..." to the right of your question to see what was included with your question.

  • Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape
  1. Check your plugin versions on either of the following links':
  2. Update Adobe Reader (PDF plugin):
    • From within your existing Adobe Reader (if you have it already installed):
      • Open the Adobe Reader program from your Programs list
      • Click Help > Check for Updates
      • Follow the prompts for updating
      • If this method works for you, skip the "Download complete installer" section below and proceed to "After the installation" below
    • Download complete installer (if you do NOT have Adobe Reader installed):
    • After the installation, start Firefox and check your version again.

Hi! It's possible that some websites don't recognize Firefox 5 because it is so new! But rest assured, your browser is secure and it supports most of Web's latest technologies. You may try changing your User Agent to make your Firefox look like its a slightly older version. There is an addon available here which allows you to change the "name" of your browser so it is recognized as being other browser. Of course, confirm that you actually have the latest version (Firefox button - Help About) :D Thanks for asking.
