I use my own web site as my homepage. It has an embedded audio clip in mp3 format that should play on launch. It keeps failing &/or telling me to go to Apple for another element, but none of the Quicktime add-ons seem to make any sense (i.e. they are for video or only change the visuals associated with playback, etc.) This never happened until the most recent Firefox update.

Which MIME type do you use to play that MP3 file?

Is that MIME type selected in QuickTime ?
You can check the about:plugins page to see which MIME types are supported by a plugin.
